Vail, CO, Colorado
For those looking to break from the standard box of chocolates or bunch of roses this Valentines Day, a unique gift can be found in the form of Vail’s manhole cover jewelry. The town of Vail’s manhole cover gift items, offered in sterling silver or 14K gold, are for both men and women. Manhole gifts range in price from $50 for a silver charm to $510 for a gold necklace and can be purchased only in Vail.
Special gifts for men include sterling silver money clips, key rings or even a Vail hitch cover. Manhole cufflinks are available in sterling silver, bronze or 14 K gold. For ladies there are manhole charm bracelets, post or dangle earrings or a gold charm or necklace.
The town of Vail began selling its manhole covers in 2002 to help thwart thefts of the real ones, which were custom-designed and installed to commemorate Vail’s 40th anniversary. Manhole jewelry was developed in response for those looking for an slightly more elegant Vail memento. Manhole covers and manhole cover jewelry is sold by the town as a fundraiser for the public art program.
Manhole cover gifts are available for purchase at the main reception desk in the Vail Municipal Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, at the Vail or Lionshead Information Centers or by phone, 970-479-2344. Credit cards are accepted. Shipping also is available.
