Vietnam has planned to reap 15 billion U.S. dollars from shipping garments and textiles abroad in 2015, up from anticipated 5.5 billion dollars in 2014 and 4.8 billion dollars in 2005, said the country’s biggest garment producer on Wednesday.

Under a plan on textile and garment development till 2015 and vision to 2020 recently submitted to the Vietnamese government, the country will earn 15 billion dollars from exports of the products and 5.5 billion dollars from domestic sales, said the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex).

To this end, Vietnam will reduce heavy reliance on material imports by intensifying cotton and synthetic fiber production. It will also center on tapping traditional markets, exploring new ones, and urging local producers to more actively build and promote trademarks both at home and abroad.

Vietnam, which was ranked the 16th out of 153 garment exporters worldwide last year, is likely to become the 10th largest garment exporter in the world by 2014, according to Vinatext.
