Violent jewelry heists in the Tri-state area have left businessmen ambushed and crooks getting away with thousands of dollars, News 5 reported.

Similar incidents have happened in cities across the country.

In a matter of seconds, the robber could slash a jewelry dealer’s tires, break windows and hold the victim up at knifepoint.

The jewel bandits have struck twice in Blue Ash

“In both incidences, there was a violent act occurred during the robbery, involving what we believe to be a knife,” said Capt. James Schaffer, with the Blue Ash Police Department.

The first victim was attacked in his garage, and the robbers got away with a tan case containing jewels.

A second victim was a traveling salesman staying in a Blue Ash hotel.

“As he was exiting his car to check into the hotel, he was approached by subjects who broke out glass, punctured tires and robbed him of his jewelry samples,” Schaffer said. “It’s either an organized group or maybe a multiple organized group.”

Outside the Tri-state, Indianapolis has been struck twice in the past few months. In that incident, the thieves got away with $400,000 worth of diamonds.

Jewelry salesmen in Nashville, Louisville and Pittsburgh have reported similar heists to those in Indianapolis and the Tri-state.

No arrests have been made in any of the cases.
