Woman critically injured by bus on S. Side

FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS
The Chicago Transit Authority was investigating an accident on the Far South Side Thursday that critically injured a woman who was reportedly dragged under a moving bus after her clothing got caught.
The woman, 39, of an unknown address, fell underneath the bus inside the CTA terminal at 95th and State Streets around 5:30 a.m., according to Gresham District Lt. Dominic Rizzi
It was possible the woman, whose name was not released pending family notification, either had a garment caught in the bus or had simply been trying to catch a ride, the lieutenant said.
“The accident is still under investigation,”said Wanda Taylor, a CTA spokeswoman. The accident involved the N [night] #5 South Shore bus that was traveling northbound in the 95th Street Red Line bus terminal, she said.
“A female customer was running along side the bus, and somehow made contact with the bus,” said Taylor, who did not immediately know if she was trying to catch it. The woman was considered a customer because she was using the station, said Taylor.
There were no customers on the bus at the time of the accident, she said.
A witness stated she saw the woman running along side of the bus as it was traveling northbound when it appeared she slipped and slid underneath the right side of the bus, Rizzi said.
She was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was undergoing surgery Thursday morning, Rizzi said.
