MANILA, Philippines—A jewelry shop in a shopping mall in Quezon City lost some P500,000 worth of silver earrings, bracelets and necklaces to unidentified robbers over the weekend, police said Sunday.

A report from the Quezon City Police District’s (QCPD) Station 2 said the burglars took 680 pieces of silver jewelry from the Silver Box stall located on the first floor of The Block in SM North Edsa.

The robbery was discovered by one of the mall’s security guards at around 5 a.m. Saturday, the report added.

The police said they were trying to determine if construction workers inside the mall could be behind the burglary.

In another development, suspected members of the “Akyat Bahay” Gang ransacked the house of a retired teacher in Barangay San Francisco del Monte, and took more than P260,000 in cash and personal items.

A report from QCPD Station 2 said Agelina Ilagan, 66, discovered the burglary when she returned home at around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Ilagan said she lost her laptop computer, a DVD player, two watches, a diamond necklace, a diamond ring, two iPod players and P30,000 in cash.
