The Provincial Textiles Industries Ministry will uplift the local textile industry in the Matale district.
In the first stage Kiula, Ukuwela and Uda Weragama villages have been selected. A few women in these areas are engaged in this industry as a side income.
Under the programme the necessary equipment and raw material will be provided for them to continue their business as a major source of income. The Ministry has decided to provide the necessary facilities for this industry to those who are interested.
A training programme will be launched for unemployed young girls in these areas. The Provincial Ministry has made arrangements to introduce a proper market for their products.
