Train garment workers for better productivity: Expert

COIMBATORE: The Indian textile industry could improve productivity only by providing proper training and motivation to its workers, observed M S Mathivanan, president of Textile Association India.
Mathivanan, who inaugurated a national workshop on latest developments in garment machineries and equipment, conducted at the Kumaraguru College of Technology here on Monday, expressed confidence over the export potential of the industry.
He predicted that the export of garments from India would register a five-fold increase in the coming years. Making a comparative study of the advantages China had over India, he said that productivity should be improved so as to be competitive with China and other countries.
“This could be achieved only by giving proper training to our textile workers and motivating them,†he emphasised. Mathivanan lauded the college for offering courses and providing trained technicians to the industry.
Leading machinery manufacturers like Juki Machineries, Barudan Embroidery Machines, Coats Sewing and embroidery threads, Ramsons Finishing Equipment, Lectra Software, Mehala Machines, etc., put their products on display and exhibited their technological developments.
K K Padmanabhan, Principal, and A Selvakumar, joint correspondent of the college, participated. M Sivakannan, Chairman of Handloom Export Promotion Council, Chennai, delivered the valedictory address.
Anish Shaw, export manager of K G Denim, and K Vasanthkumar, consultant of Knit India Fair, offered felicitations.
