John B. Lowe Jr. has been named chairman of Zale Corp., replacing Richard Marcus, who remains a director of the jewelry retailer.
Lowe was listed as chairman in a regulatory filing Monday, but the company did not publicize the change.
Marcus, 69, had been chairman since 2004 and joined the board in 1993, when Zale was coming out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. He previously served as a director of retailers Michaels Stores Inc. and Lands End.
Lowe, 68, joined the board in 2004. He is also chairman of a Dallas-based plumbing contractor TDIndustries Ltd. and president of the Dallas Independent School District board.
Lowe becomes chairman as the company is selling its upscale Bailey Banks & Biddle chain to focus on core brands, including Zales Jewelers and Gordon’s Jewelers. Zale operates about 2,250 stores and kiosks.
