Garment workers clash at Uttara: 20 injured

At least 20 people were injured when a clash took place between the owner’s men and employees at a garments factory at the city’s Uttara area yesterday morning.

The employees of Hachon garments factory at Majid Complex alleged that a gang of terrorists abducted some workers of the garments factory on Sunday night from the in front of Mijan’s Rickshaw Garage at North Foyedabad area and beat them indiscriminately detaining them at a local club

The workers turned agitated when the injured workers informed the incident to other workers in the morning.

The outsider terrorists led by the in-charge Siraj vandalised the office room of the Hachon garment factory situated on the second floor at about 8.30 am. The general manager Kamrul Islam, production manager Abdul Khaleque and superviser allegedly extended cooperation to the attackers.

As the workers reached the factory, the outsiders and the workers engaged in altercation and at one stage, it turned into clash, chase and counter chase.

At last, the workers joined their works following a meeting with the owners’ side. But, the owners feared a big incident following the clash, chase and counter chase.

Naimur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of Uttara thana, admitted about the incident saying that such incident took place six times in the factory.

Tense situation has been prevailing among the workers. Police cordoned off the garments factory.
