HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has invited garment exporters to set up units in the State’s apparel parks and offered all incentives, including further reduction in power tariff.

After laying the foundation for a Rs. 25-crore apparel unit of Bangalore-based Gokaldas Exports Ltd, readymade garments major Shahi Exports and Textport Syndicate at Nacharam here on Wednesday, he said his Government had reduced power tariff to ensure that the State was the provider of cheapest energy in the country.

Infrastructure

Apart from power, other infrastructure like roads would be put in place at the parks, he promised a gathering of representatives of the three companies and officials of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and Industries Department.

He favoured setting up of more special economic zones (SEZs) in the State, possibly in every district. Already SEZs, that helped the Government realise its aim of providing more jobs, were coming up in Visakhapatnam, Chittoor and Hindupur.

Dr. Reddy cited the example of a Chinese shoe unit at Tada in Nellore district that provided employment to over 1,000 persons. In six months, the figure was likely cross 2,500. He said Government agency Omcap also helped drivers and labourers get jobs abroad.

Labour Minister G. Vinod told reporters on the sidelines of the function that SEZs were in the pipeline in Guntur, Chittoor and Chirala. Two other Ministers P. Sabita Reddy and Ponnala Lakshmaiah were present.

More jobs

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Rajender Hinduja, Executive Director (Finance), Gokaldas Exports, said the unit, to become operational in late 2014, would provide 4,500 jobs directly and 2,000 more indirectly.

The three units to come up in the new apparel park at Nacharam — in which an investment of Rs.250 crore is to be made in three years –will employ nearly 8,000 persons.
