About Swallow Nests
In traditional Chinese herbal medicine, Swallow’s Nests have long been known to have strong regenerative properties. Its history can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty, China (A.D. 618 – 907). During that time, there were many records of Swallow’s Nests being imported from Southeast Asia to China.
The reason that the Swallow’s Nests have been so well known and accepted is its many health-enhancing effects. In the Qing Dynasty, two famous practitioners of medicine have described the nests as a rejuvenation agent, which slows down the aging process, and demulcent agent that soothes maladies associated with breathing and the lung. Swallow’ Nests have been used to relieve phlegm and coughs since that time.
Based on modern research, the protein contained in Swallow’s Nests is an enzyme, which has revitalizing effects. The research reveals that the nests contains small amount of epidermal growth factor. Water extracts from the Swallow’s Nests can also directly stimulate cell growth and regeneration leading to the enhanced effectiveness of mitosis or cellular division. In one of the most recent published research by Dr. Kong Yun Cheong, biochemist at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (www.cuhk.hk), his research confirms the high content of water-soluble glyco-protein in Swallow’s Nests also promotes cellular division within the body’s immune system. This protein from the nest also makes it a very useful tonic for people with weak digestion system (e.g. elderly people) and for people that need a rapid cell regeneration and/or growth (e.g.: pregnant women, growing children).
