Indonesia’s Leading Export Products

Indonesia is known as a country rich in natural resources. This view is not entirely wrong, because several natural resource products in Indonesia are currently the main export products.

There are a number of Indonesian export products that are superior in the global market. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia’s export products are divided into two categories, namely oil and gas and non-oil and gas. The total value of non-oil and gas export products that are the mainstay in Indonesia reached US$22.84 billion in November 2021.

Products that become superior exports by SMEs are:
Palm Oil
Indonesia is still known as the king of world palm oil, because Indonesia still controls about 55% of the global palm oil export market. According to data from the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) in 2020 the export value of palm oil reached 34 million tons with a value of US$22.97 billion. Indonesian palm oil is exported to several countries including China, India, Europe and other countries.

Rubber
One of the leading Indonesian export agricultural products is rubber. In 2020, according to BPS data, the total exports of rubber products to foreign countries reached around 2.2 million tons with a value of US$2.9 billion. The main destinations for rubber exports include the US, Japan, China, India, South Korea, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, and so on.

Coffee, Tea and Cocoa
Coffee, tea and cocoa are Indonesian agricultural products that are dominant in the export market. Indonesia sends coffee, tea and cocoa products to several countries such as Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Egypt, United States, United Kingdom, Italy, and other countries.

Footwear
Not only in plantation and mining, Indonesia also exports industrial products. One of the main export products is footwear. Footwear products sent abroad include sports shoes, technical shoes, industrial shoes and other footwear for daily needs. This footwear is sold in various countries including the United States, Belgium, China, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, England, Korea, Italy, Mexico, and so on.

In addition to the superior export products above, Indonesia also has other export potential products. Especially from the handicraft sector, leather products, spices and agricultural products which include: packaged food products and herbs.

The current government continues to encourage business actors, especially the manufacturing sector, to carry out industrial downstream programs, which process raw products into finished or semi-finished products, so that these export products have added value. This strategic effort is aimed at reducing Indonesia’s dependence on imported products, as well as reducing the trade balance deficit and current account balance.
