Sri Lanka to offer 10,000 special coconut plants to Bangladesh

These species can efficiently protect the environment of coastlines, frequently exposed to tidal surges and erosion,†said an official press release issued after a meeting between the visiting Sri Lankan speaker and Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury.
During the meeting, Lokubanadara said Colombo expected to get Bangladesh as one of the major importers of its coconut oil.
Dhaka and Colombo witness an intensified campaign for the promotion of bilateral trade and investment, with Colombo last month hosting a single country Bangladesh Trade Fair.
Bangladesh intends to enter into Sri Lankan market, particularly with pharmaceutical products in view of its demand there.
Bangladeshi goods destined to Sri Lanka include pharmaceuticals, sari, industrial materials, readymade garments, home textiles, handicraft, light engineering products, vehicle and dry cell battery, jute products, food products, cosmetics and toiletries, utensils, electrical cable, glass, ceramics and stationery materials.
Colombo exports textile materials, mineral products, petroleum, food items and machinery.
Commerce Ministry officials earlier said Sri Lanka also expressed interest in importing potato, potato seeds and other vegetables and saline from Bangladesh due to price compatitiveness or quality.
