Yemeni Dance Stuns Cairo Crowds

SANA’A – Traditional Yemeni Bara dancers drew large crowds in Cairo at the Second National Cultures Festival, held in the shadow of the pyramids in the Egyptian capital last week.
Large numbers of Arab and foreign tourists gathered near a model of the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh King Tutankhamen to watch the Yemeni dance.

The dance, at the Village of the Pharaoh in Cairo, was one of the favourites of those who had gathered to watch the folk dance displays.
Along with Yemen and the host Egypt, the countries who took part in the festival included Iran, Romania, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan and Mali.
Crowds of tourist crowds gathered for the full five days of the festival, enjoying the dramatic shows and exhibitions.

The Yemeni section included special miniature models of Yemen’s unique architecture, as well as paintings and photographs showing the most famous tourist sites and landmarks in Yemen.
Yemen’s section, the biggest in the festival, also exhibited examples of handicraft work, silver jewelry, traditional costumes, and Yemeni local products.

Example of books, literature and newspapers displaying the opportunities and potential of Yemen for tourists were also exhibited, with some handed out as gifts to visitors.
The Yemen Media Center exhibited a book called Al-Lahdah Documentation Book, which includes rage documentary photographs of the early days of the Yemeni revolution. The Yemeni Cultural Center showed documentary and tourist films.

Yemeni music was played throughout the days of the festival, and people from the Yemeni community living in Egypt performed various dances.
Yemen’s participation in the festival was greatly appreciated, and the shows were admired by the administration of the Village of the Pharaoh.
Abdulwali Al-Shamiri, Yemeni Ambassador to Egypt and permanent envoy at the Arab league, watched and enjoyed Yemen’s participation. 
The festival aimed at presenting examples of the countries cultural heritage, in addition to the shows held at Village of the Pharaoh.
 Those shows reflected the ancient life of the Pharaohs in addition to two sections showing the Coptic Christian and Islamic civilization in Egypt, followed by a museum exhibition reflecting the history of modern Egypt during the rein of the former presidents Jamal Abdunasser and Anwar Al-Sadat.

Mohammed Al-Nouri, Yemen’s Consul in Cairo and his representative Mohammed Al-Azani supervised Yemen’s participation in the event.
