National Handicraft Expo 2014 from Jan 1

Lucknow: The annual colourful National Handicraft Expo 2014 will start here from January 1, next year.

The fair titled ‘Lokrang Shilp Mela’ is being organised by Uttar Pradesh Culture department in association with Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Central Region, Government of India.

Official sources said here today UP minister of state for culture (independent charge) Rajendra Singh Rana would inaugurate the 15-day fair.

Famous art and crafts from different regions of the country including metal, cloth, wool, traditional saris, wood, cane and bamboo, fibre, leather, jewellery and pottery, would be showcased.

Deft craftsmen and artisans from Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Bengal, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Gujarat are also participating in the Mela.

Each day would witness staging of various cultural programmes featuring unique genres of Indian folk entertainment.

To satiate the taste buds of visitors, lip smacking regional and ethnic fare would also be on offer.
