Bhairavgarh print a dying tradition
Ujjain, MP: This ancient temple town’s famed Bhairavgarh print, which has a tradition going back more than 400 years, is gradually being pushed to the brink of extinction.
Though the state government ran several schemes and corporations for the art’s development and uplift, the predecessor regime’s closure of the Madhya Pradesh Vastra Udyog Nigam and Small-scale Industries Corporation dealt a body blow to the print.
The Madhya Pradesh Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation does not seem to be evincing enough interest in purchasing the print.
Sayyad Iqbal Bhai, for whom Bhairavgarh print is an ancestral business, appears a dejected man.
”Bhairavgarh print cloth is still in demand in India and abroad,” he maintains while talking to UNI.
