Van khol presented on Thursday a survey on “Analysis of the situation of children” in Fez.

The UNICEF representative in Morocco said that the 2002-2014 cooperation programme of Morocco and UNICEF proves that the Moroccan citizens, NGOs, national associations and government are all aware of the necessity of improving children’s situation.

She also underlined that this initiative, which is part of the activities conducted by the regional coordination committee of the project “Analysis of the situation of children”, targets mainly the enrichment and establishment of integrated information systems related to childhood.

Van Khol seized the occasion to call for an overall approach to protect childhood, which should involve all fields related to their vital needs, such as education, health and nutrition.

She added that investigations made by many departments of UNICEF as well as by some NGOs have allowed the collection of a lot of data concerning children’s rights.

“The project aims at giving the child a better starting point in life, working in particular in the field of health, nutrition, family and pre-schooling,” underlined Van Khol.

The Wali of the Fez-Boulemane region, Mohammed Gharrabi, said that the UNICEF programme aims at presenting the programmes undertaken by Morocco in the childhood domain, calling for the reinforcement of cooperation and promotion of children’s rights.

“Morocco, thanks to the NIHD programmes, will give priority to children’s rights, especially children from disadvantaged families,” said the Wali, recalling that Fez has already cooperated with UNICEF on different key-projects in the handicraft field.

During the three-day workshop, he participants in the survey on children’s situation in Fez will discuss means to promote the conditions of children at the local level.

UNICEF cooperates with Morocco on programmes based on the analysis of the situation, which allows the identification of national priorities in terms of children’s rights.

The UNICEF office in Morocco works on four projects aiming at implementing the objectives which comprises the support and protection of children in rural areas and the improvement of communication.
