Indonesian Food Industry is More Innovative through Indonesia Food Innovation

The Ministry of Industry initiated the Indonesia Food Innovation (IFI) program for food small and medium industries (IKM). This program involves academics, practitioners, and the food industry. The IKMs are expected to increase their capabilities in developing their industries. IFI is a business acceleration program aimed at food SMIs that have product innovation or process products that use local resources as the main raw material.

Indonesian food IKMs are ready to increase the scale of the business towards modern IKM that are marketable, profitable and sustainable. The added value of a product has a big role in encouraging the advancement of food SMIs in Indonesia. In addition, the existence of innovation can be the right tool in creating added value. Indonesian food IKM products are also wide open to meet the domestic market and to enter the export market.

The Ministry of Industry noted that the number of food IKMs currently reaches 1.86 million business units or 43.41 percent of the total IKM business units in Indonesia. These IKMs have contributed to the progress of the national food industry, and play an important role in the Indonesian economy. Food IKM is expected to have the right readiness and strategy in improving quality, building branding, adapting, strengthening innovation, and being able to read current market trends and needs.

Through recently condition, Indonesia export market must increase to assisting the recovery of the Indonesian economy. Of course, Indonesian products are always the ones most sought after by importers. Indonesian products are always the best and do not exist in other countries.
