Cupumanik Gallery has been estblished since 1980, located in Bandung by its’s founder who once studied art in Bandung Institute of Technology, the late H. Heri Hermawan. In 1987, he received his first achievment that is Upakarti Award as the Hero of Local Culture Preservation from the late Indonesian’s President, Soeharto. Love of the puppet show is part of the journey H. Heri Hermawan during his lifetime until he was involved in the making of puppet show and opened a gallery called Cupumanik. After his death, the gallery is now followed by the second generation. The late H. Herry Hermawan were very interested in sculpture. For the sake of developing the craft of puppet show, he holds a puppet craftsmen from the region Purwakarta to be creative in the art galleries that he ran in Singapore since 1980.
From Cupumanik, he also created a puppet show that is devoted to souvenirs. This puppet show handicraft business continued to grow until 1987. Workshop of Cupumanik is in Gang Haji Akbar No.10, Cicendo (near Bandung station) gallery that still persist and become a center souvenir Bandung. This gallery is available sale of craft products, ranging from marionettes, wooden puppets, tube puppets, wedding’s souvenir. pen, pencil, magnet, masks, puppet figures, unique handmade souvenir (keychains, bags knitted, etc.), until the instrument music of Sundanese like angklung, gambang, suling, gamelan. Currently, Cupumanik cooperates with around 15 craftsmen puppet spread beyond the area of Bandung as Purwakarta , Majalaya and Sumedang. Cupumanik Gallery has known among tourists from other areas of Bandung, even to abroad. Puppet crafts show at this gallery of great quality and still maintain authenticity. Puppet show souvenirs of Cupumanik are made of wood albasiah (lame). The puppet show that there is here provided a variety of sizes from 15 cm to 2 meters.
